Shipping Do’s & Don’ts

  • Never ship any bird(s) that show any signs of being sick.
  • Never ship birds in extreme heat or freezing conditions
  • Do not over crowd the box with too many birds.
  • Use USPS approved live bird shipping boxes.
  • Place a 1-2 inch layer of wood shavings on the bottom of the box.
  • Use the sliced Apples for food & hydration. No water in the boxes for any reason (cardboard + water = mess).
  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday are the best days for shipping out live birds. Never ship late in the week or during a holiday.
  • Be aware the USPS online tracking number may not always be up to date and accurate. The online system sometimes takes a little extra time to update tracking info.
  • Purchase the USPS Express Mail 1-2 Day shipping label online through the Paypal payment you received. This should save you 20% or more per label you purchase.
  • Do not purchase the shipping label at the Post Office. It is a hassle waiting in line with birds and having to fill out shipping labels. Have it prepaid and ready to drop off.
  • Feed & water the birds to be shipped prior to boxing them up.
  • If you live in the lower 48 states, do not ship birds to Alaska or Hawaii. The journey is too long and not worth the risk, birds will likely die.
  • It is not recommended you ship eggs/chicks/birds outside of the US.
  • Send a message to buyer with expected delivery date and tracking number.
  • Be sure the buyer’s phone number & “Call For Pickup” is written clearly on the box & shipping label so they can be notified as soon as the birds arrive at their local Post Office.
